SHAMROCKS

The idea of a club for seniors originated  over twenty five years ago.  A group of interested seniors, led by Deacon Phil Fragassi, met for a few months to develop a charter for the organization.  Among other things, the charter stated that the Club would welcome members from age 50 and above, and that membership is open to any senior who chooses to join us.  Two of the Club’s primary commitments  are to provide service to those in need, and to organize social activities for seniors.  We have grown today to an organization that numbers over 200 members, with an average of  85 people attending our monthly meetings.

Some service activities we Shamrocks are involved with include the following: we hold a 50/50 raffle each month to help a charitable cause of our choosing (such as contributing to provide Sunday Masses for shut-ins, or adoption of a family in Piara, Peru).   We donate to St. Pat’s School Scholarship Fund and to Youth Ministry.  We provide funds to the parish at Christmas and Easter for distribution of food baskets to the needy in our community.  We provide the congregation for four video-taped Sunday Masses at Mercy Home  to provide 60,000 shut-ins the opportunity to “attend” Sunday Mass.  During the pre-season Christmas Season, we work with Catholic Charities “Giving Tree” project,  and   at our annual Christmas Buffet and Celebration , we donate gifts for the people in Immaculate Conception parish (St. Pat’s sharing parish on the south side of Chicago).
